Introducing Hybrid T2

For 2014-15, we’re proud to announce that a third construction enters the mix, mating elements of DPS’ existing award-winning shaping, design, and technology in a freshly minted metal laminate construction. Hybrid T2 construction is DPS’ new proprietary blend of Titanal, glass, and carbon. In its inaugural year, Hybrid T2 will debut in the updated mixed snow/all-mountain Wailer 105 shape (185cm and 178cm) and the frontside/all-mountain Cassiar 85 (178cm and 168cm). Hybrid T2 represents a substantial evolution of DPS’ Hybrid construction series. Since time immemorial, or at least since the late 1940’s when Howard Head slapped two pieces of aluminum on wood, many skiers—and ski racers—remain devoted to the solid and stable feel of metal skis. Skis are deeply personal choices in terms of how they connect to a body in motion–everyone has unique preferences for layups and constructions, and Hybrid T2 exists to satisfy skiers who prefer the feel of a traditional metal build. The grand plan is for Hybrid T2 construction to continue to evolve into skis designed with waist widths that are 105mm and below, while composite laminate blends will remain for the higher waist widths. Like DPS’ award-winning Pure3 line, and the existing Hybrid shapes, Hybrid T2 also features the hardest, fastest carbon bases available, and a new chamfered top-edge to reduce chipping. DPS founder Stephan Drake says, “DPS is known for pioneering carbon fiber sandwich technology into ultra high-performance skis and will continue to do so in our Pure3 line, which we consider the ultimate expression of ski engineering. With many dedicated skiers growing up on metal laminate skis, and preferring the feel of metal at the narrower end of their quiver, we are happy to offer an industry-leading Titanal construction to complement our carbon offerings. We often offer a specific shape in both constructions, which encourages the skier to contemplate and choose the construction that best fits their own style and snow-feel preference.” This fall, Hybrid T2 has already been recognized by ski medium worldwide. The Hybrid T2 Wailer 105 won Freeskier's Editor's Choice Award and also was also named a Skiing Magazine Official Selection.
"DPS is relaunching the Wailer 105 this season with a beefed-up metal-laminate build that turns it into an immensely capable resort rig. Stable and perfectly balanced, this ski gobbles up crud and bumps and can still knife up the groomers." - Skiing Magazine.
A DPS skier can now choose between three distinct lines, with specific benefits and feels, all catered to personal preferences: Pure 3, Hybrid, and now Hybrid T2.
