At DPS, engineering and manufacturing are core parts of our identity.
DPS was founded with the purpose to create skis that didn’t yet exist: rockered and wide powder shapes that helped guide the industry to the many options of skis it has today.
We formally consider sustainability in our product design process, as a complement to our continuing performance and durability goals. We constantly work on many projects behind the scenes, calculating the carbon footprint of our products and business, and identifying hot spots where our changes can make the most impact.
A key area is material selection. A useful product must perform well and be durable, and that’s what we have focused on for the 18 years that DPS has been alive. It also matters where the product’s materials come from, and how those materials are built into it.
Here are some areas where we’ve implemented change with material selection in our factory:
Material Analysis: Using both material emissions factors and supply chain data (such as travel distance and factory data), has allowed us to accurately measure the carbon footprint of raw materials and shipping. In turn, this enables us to focus on more sustainable options.
Continuous assessment on feedstock of the materials we purchase (are materials made from oil or plants?), provides clarity on the reputation and credentials of the vendor, allowing us to determine and select the best option. Lastly, we aim to source wood for our ski cores from species with healthy forestry industries.
Waste Reduction: We constantly work to reduce waste in our factory. In the last two years through process and equipment improvements, we have seen significant waste reductions in ski base material, top sheets, and wood from our cores. We have made changes in our base cutting and assembly process, which has drastically reduced the amount of base material we scrap. By bringing top sheet printing in-house, this has given us more control of the process so we can understand the root cause of defects and issues and make changes that drive a lower scrap rate.
Material Innovation: Innovation is key to our success, and we strive to produce some of the world’s best performing and most sustainable skis on the market. In order to achieve our goals, we are experimenting with and implementing new materials such as bio-based resins into our skis. In 2021, we used bio-based PU sidewalls, and we are currently working on more bio-material changes for future skis.
Packaging: When shipping skis, we have switched from plastic foam to reusable wool felt dividers which are placed between each ski to protect them from potential damage. Taking it one step further, our skis are wrapped with Cortec® EcoShrink™ which is a 45% bio-based material that is industrially compostable. We strive to not only reduce the amount of packaging materials that are used, but also reuse specific packaging when possible.
For PHANTOM Glide, we have implemented a bottle return scheme from our dealers, and developed a new formula that reduces application volume and further improves environmental characteristics.
We are always considering future innovation potential, and by looking at multiple factors, we try to avoid trading one problem for another, and make changes that are long lasting and impactful.
We believe a great product is one that you can rely on in any situation. Durability breeds confidence, and it’s a core design attribute that we’ve focused on since the first DPS skis were built in 2005.
Making skis that can be skied year after year is one of the largest actions that we can take to manage our impact on the environment. A ski that’s continuously being skied on is one that won’t go to the landfill. We love it whenever we spot a ten year old pair of DPS Skis in the lift line, because we know they’re still skiing great. That’s testament to the engineering and skilled craftsmanship that goes into every pair of skis.
So, what are we doing to build durable skis and ensure they withstand years of skiing?
In terms of ski construction:
Carbon Fiber
We’re using carbon fiber as the primary structural component for most of our skis. Carbon fiber has no fatigue limit, meaning it won’t consistently degrade over time like a lot of the materials that many other ski manufacturers use. Carbon allows DPS skis to retain their camber and energy over time and use.
4000 Series Sintered Bases
We use full thickness, 4000 series sintered bases. It’s the hardest base material and helps to prevent inevitable base damage.
Textured Polyamide Topsheet
Our topsheets use a tough, textured, and scratch resistant material. This minimizes damage from edge dings and keeps your skis looking new.
Aluminum Tail Bar
At the bottom of all our skis, you’ll find an aluminum tail bar. It’s designed to be tough in order to protect against knocking the skis on hard surfaces.
Layering
In their most simple terms, skis are many different layers glued together. We utilize additional layers of polyurethane to ensure the adhesion of dissimilar materials. We’re always working to optimize these bonds with the best materials, bond preparation, and quality control to avoid the dreaded delamination that many skis suffer from.
We don’t skimp on the quality or number of any materials that go into our skis in order to get their weight or cost down.
In terms of our warranty process:
We actively seek to repair as many warranty claims as possible. Our 2+ year warranty program stands behind our skis and other products as proof of our belief in their quality and longevity.
The “+” means that no matter how old our skis are, we’ll always do our best to work with a customer to get skis repaired, or to find a creative solution that keeps the customer and their DPS Skis on snow.
DPS Skis, the U.S.-based ski manufacturer pairing space-age carbon technology with groundbreaking shapes, is proud to launch an exclusive collaboration with artist Mark Grotjahn. Grotjahn has developed a ski top sheet based on drawing #15 from Grotjahn’s 50 Kitchens Collection. The limited-run DPS 50 Kitchens #15 Skis are available at dpsskis.com and Cripple Creek Backcountry, in-store and online.
“I like being immersed deep into nature where I feel small and like a little tourist, just a little guy on a big, big globe. Nature doesn’t care about me. Nature doesn’t not care about me. I just get to be a little visitor,” says Grotjahn on his passion for backcountry skiing. “I love the feeling of contemplation and quiet when I tour ski. I feel so in the moment that everything else disappears and I feel invisible. I think any skier or anybody who takes it seriously knows what it’s like to disappear into their sport. And I have to say, this feeling exists in making paintings too. It just happens more consistently on the mountain.”
Grotjahn was first introduced to backcountry skiing in Colorado’s Elk Mountains when he bought his first backcountry ski set-up and he attended a level-one avalanche course. After the course, Grotjahn wanted to take his new skills to practice and hired the head guide and owner of Aspen Expeditions, Amos Whiting. They spent the next two years exploring the backcountry when time would allow Grotjahn to sneak away. When Grotjahn was ready to upgrade his backcountry set-up, he walked into Cripple Creek Backcountry in Aspen and was immediately drawn to a pair of yellow monochrome skis made by DPS. Grotjahn was curious about the brand and he soon reached out to DPS to learn more about team behind the monochrome design.
Just six months after the initial introduction, Grotjahn and DPS release the new 50 Kitchens #15 Skis to the ski and art world. Grotjahn selected a pencil design from the 50 Kitchens collection because he knew it would take to a ski beautifully. The 50 Kitchens collection consists of “Butterfly” compositions, a motif Grotjahn has been creating since the nineties.
“Mark’s work, specifically the 50 Kitchens Collection, was a natural fit for DPS. This project is radically different than anything we’ve done before, but at the same time, Mark’s use of color and the level of discipline that comes through in his work spoke to us as the perfect collaboration,” says Dan Pizza, creative director at DPS Skis. “Mark is super down to earth and this project was a true collaboration where everyone worked together, asked questions, and listened to each other’s ideas. In the end, we are all super happy with the final product.”
The limited-edition 50 Kitchens #15 Skis (MSRP: $2,000) are made using the Kaizen construction, the latest DPS ski design evolution. With a 15m turn radius and 112mm width at the waist, the 50 Kitchens #15 Skis are made for maneuverability and powder skiing. The skis come cured with PHANTOM Glide, a permanent, waxless base glide treatment and are available today at dpsskis.com and Cripple Creek Backcountry in four lengths: 168cm, 178cm, 184cm and 189cm.
Grotjahn and DPS Skis will celebrate the launch of 50 Kitchens #15 Skis at Aspen Art Museum in Aspen, CO on Feb. 18, 2023 from 6-10pm. Tickets are available for $85 at www.aspenartmuseum.org.

His work has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions including the 2005 Carnegie International; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA; and The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA, and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.
About the 50 Kitchens Collection: Los Angeles-based artist Mark Grotjahn has made “Butterfly” compositions since the nineties and the 50 Kitchens collection draws on this motif. 50 Kitchens takes its inspiration from a single composition, in black and cream-colored pencil, that Grotjahn made to meet the dimensional specifications of a wall in his kitchen. The more than fifty subsequent chromatic drawings explore pairs of radiating colors (like Tuscan Red and Chartreuse, or Grass Green and Canary Yellow) and together create a prismatic display. The pencil design, or set of lines, that designates each composition has been likened to an upended perspectival diagram, creating a compressed rather than expansive sense of rapid recession into or out of space. Colored pencils are used to fill in between these lines, producing waxy surfaces that bring to mind sun flares and starbursts, as well as psychedelic tunnel vision.
On the 'Totally Deep' podcast, Doug Stenclik and Randy Young of Cripple Creek Backcountry interview Mark Grotjahn to learn more about the inspiration behind his art, his love for skiing, and his experience creating this ski. Click here to listen.
]]>Without waxing poetic, or tickling the superficially ephemeral, skiing is special because it's pure playtime in wild places. And it's in these wild places, from the Andes to the Chilkats that inspire all of us at DPS.
As craftsmen driven by a dream to build the perfect ski, we’re mired in a manufacturing conundrum, a Dr. Seussian middle world of building tools for people to dive into wilderness, while being mindful of our environmental impact.
The business of manufacturing is environmentally poor, whether organic kicks, electric cars, or skis; it’s resource intensive. Since 2005, the DPS mandate has been to design the world’s most advanced skis—bomber skis that core skiers will appreciate for their longevity. At times, that goal has been kinked and complicated by our simultaneous urge to introduce new paradigms in difficult-to-build ski technology. Specifically, the carbon fiber is a tricky material to employ in skis from a process standpoint. But when engineered right; it's so sweet. Carbon skis fit into that equation because of their practically infinite flex life, meaning your skis feel the same in season six as day one. Tools that perform optimally, like an old fly rod passed through generations, should be used and enjoyed.
Yet, there remains a dangerous problem: the desire to replace skis when the skis you have are still rad. Ski marketers love to persuade you that you risk not looking cool without new graphics, or alleged technological upgrades, even though the latest model may functionally be the same. And the worst part: skiers buy into this and can become fearful of being judged by others caught in this trap. It’s a plague, but also the foundation of planned obsolescence.
DPS’ ski art is intentionally simple to reflect the pure experience of powder skiing. We want you to love the tools you have. Don’t misunderstand us, we need your money, it’s how we are able to reinvest in new technologies and keep our dream alive. But adding new skis to your quiver should only be done when design evolution provides a tangible performance upgrade that will take your on-mountain experience to new levels.
We pledge to do everything we can to help you down this path by only marketing design upgrades that will improve your skiing, with the ultimate goal of increasing your enjoyment of wild places. And just maybe, just maybe, this thinking can help the earth by quelling that seasonal consumer itch to replace what works. Well, that’s our dream at least.
“Summer is a skier’s season to dream.” Those are the words that gave birth to Dreamtime over a decade ago and they remain true today. It’s a time for dedicated skiers around the globe to get lost in heat-induced daydreams of cold smoke, build your perfect quiver and visualize how your body and equipment will work in unison when the snow begins to fall again. Summer is also a time when the DPS product and manufacturing teams are hard at work bringing to life innovative dream projects while tirelessly crafting skis for the coming season.
Dreamtime 2022 marks the introduction of multiple new products and limited release items. For skis, this includes four event-exclusive Special Edition graphic Pagoda skis, two limited-run creations from the Powderworks division, and our new Pagoda Tour collection, featuring our new Third Rail Technology with fresh graphics.
For gear and accessories, in addition to our new luggage line, we’re excited to revamp our co-branded DPS/ATK R10 binding, now with a new stomp pad for improved energy transfer – a feature that is exclusive to the DPS partnership. This event also marks the launch of an all-new formula of PHANTOM Glide that’s more efficient and easier to apply than ever before.
During this limited time, we are offering a variety of discounts:
-Pagoda skis and Special Edition skis are $250 off.
-The Lotus 117 and Pagoda Tour skis are $200 off.
-All Foundation and Koala skis are $150 off.
-Grom skis are $100 off.
-PHANTOM Glide, accessories, and most gear will be discounted at 15% off.
Special Edition skis are released once per year exclusively at Dreamtime. They are small-batch, limited edition ‘artwork’ creations made in our Salt Lake City, Utah factory, and are never reproduced again. Prized by those craving something truly rare and exotic, interested skiers are strongly encouraged to contact a DPS ski fitter before Dreamtime commences so that they can act decisively, as Special Edition’s commonly sellout. The 2022 Special Edition skis are available in the Pagoda 100 RP and Pagoda 112 RP models.
This year’s Special Edition designs represent a balance of constant forward progress with their retro color scheme and line art, while fondly recollecting an easier time and heartbeat of the past.
Special Edition Pagoda 100 RP (Orange) - 153cm, 163cm, 171cm, 179cm, 184cm, 189cm
Special Edition Pagoda 100 RP (Teal) - 153cm, 163cm, 171cm, 179cm, 184cm, 189cm
Special Edition Pagoda 112 RP (Red) - 158cm, 168cm, 178cm, 184cm, 189cm
Special Edition Pagoda 112 RP (Blue) - 158cm, 168cm, 178cm, 184cm, 189cm
Powderworks skis represent a space that allows for cutting-edge creativity, progressive shapes, and experimental R+D efforts. Unrestrained by traditional ski construction, these designs are born from a fleeting moment on a chairlift ride or the skin track— and then brought to life in the R+D lab. A small batch of Powderworks skis are built every year for those whose lives revolve around their next epic powder turn.
Powderworks Tour 110 C2 - 171cm, 179cm, 184cm, 189cm
Powderworks 100 RPC - 171cm, 179cm, 184cm, 189cm
Complete with a new look, we are introducing a second generation of our Pagoda Tour construction. These skis are all made with our new Third Rail Technology, an additional sidewall material that is incorporated into the core of the ski within the key vibration nodes, improving the integration between the core and sidewall. While still maintaining the industry’s lightest performance-to-weight ratio, Third Rail Technology makes this new generation of touring skis damper, more durable, and more stable than previous iterations.
Pagoda Tour 90 RP - 157cm, 165cm, 171cm, 179cm, 184cm
Pagoda Tour 94 C2 - 157cm, 165cm, 171cm, 178cm, 185cm
Pagoda Tour 100 RP - 153cm, 163cm, 171cm, 179cm, 184cm
Pagoda Tour 106 C2 - 155cm, 163cm, 171cm, 179cm, 184cm
Pagoda Tour 112 RP - 158cm, 168cm, 178cm, 184cm, 189cm
Dreamtime also serves as the introduction for our brand new formula of PHANTOM Glide. With a much thinner formula, this new iteration is all about efficiency, as the thin formula allows it to spread over the base more easily. This allows the user to apply half as much volume as before. Additionally, after the product is worked into the base, there is no longer a need to wipe down the base before it is cured, resulting in an easier and more efficient application process.
Introduced last spring, our full collection of luggage remains a staple in the traveling skier’s life. With three offerings of a daypack, a duffel bag and a rolling ski bag, this collection provides the ultimate set up for all types of travel.
DPS Daily Duffel
DPS Hourly Daypack
DPS Mission Quiver Roller
We have made substantial improvements in our DPS/ATK Touring Binding. It’s now equipped with the advanced features of a stomp pad for increased energy transfer between boot, binding and ski, and a flatter ramp angle to mimic the feel of alpine binding. While maintaining its speed touring weight, the R10 is now a fully featured performance binding.
*During Dreamtime, we’re offering a free binding mount with the purchase of skis and bindings. Our custom ski fitters can help you choose the ideal binding for your ski, and it will be shipped mounted for the ultimate convenience.
Free Shipping on US orders over $100
During the event, we are offering free standard shipping on all US orders over $100.
Factory applied PHANTOM Glide - Save 15%
Don’t forget to add factory applied PHANTOM to any ski purchase during the event. You will find this option on all ski product pages just above the “add to cart” button.

]]>Happy Earth Day from everyone at DPS Skis. We’re passionate about respecting the mountains and the environment, which is why a focus on sustainability has been a large part of our brand since the beginning. As we celebrate Mother Earth today and everyday, we’d like to highlight some of our recent sustainability efforts.
In the summer of 2021, we joined SIA’s Climate United Pact. This is an accountability pledge that SIA created to unite like-minded winter outdoor industry companies around meaningful climate action. We’re honored to be a part of this pact and to be aligned with other organizations that share our environmental vision.
In the fall of 2021, we began using 45% bio-based Cortec® EcoShrink™ to wrap our finished skis. Rather than the typical plastic sleeves used to wrap skis, this wrap can be composted in a commercial facility, helping to reduce waste with each pair of skis produced.
We also replaced our plastic shipping bags with 100% recycled paper shipping bags for shipping softgoods.
We have continued to make updates on the sustainable construction of our skis. This includes ongoing engineering collaboration to introduce 63% bio-content Checkerspot Algal-based sidewall material and castor oil based top sheets. We have also made continuous improvements in the durability of our skis so they last longer. With aluminum tailbars, improved topsheet bonding, stronger cores, and delamination resistance, our skis are designed to last for multiple seasons and reduce the need to buy new skis each year.
We have worked hard to reduce material waste in our factory. By taking ownership of our raw materials and the ways they are used, we are able to achieve higher yield on those raw materials and adapt our processes when necessary. This includes adjustments in all steps of the ski production process, including finger jointing our wood cores in order to obtain more usable pieces and reduce scrap.
In addition to these achievements, here’s what we’re focusing on next to implement more sustainable practices in our factory and throughout our business.
We’ve measured the emissions of our products and businesses, and are using this data to take accountability for our impacts. We are in the process of developing a sustainability action plan for our business that will guide our approach to policy, emissions reductions, and communications. This will help us to treat sustainability as a top tier product development criteria.
We will continue to develop ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle material waste from our factory.
To read more about our ongoing sustainability projects, check out the Sustainability page on our website. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at info@dpsskis.com.
]]>Dear DPS Community,
The ski season is almost upon us and the anticipation is growing everywhere. Mountain areas here in the Western U.S. have already received significant snowfall at higher elevations. Some resorts in the Wasatch Range have recorded as much as 80 inches (2 meters) of snow with opening days planned for many Rocky Mountain resorts over the next couple of weeks. Many from the DPS factory team have already been donning their headlamps before the workday for early morning dawn patrols in the backcountry or sneaking into resorts to dodge snow making crews furiously prepping for opening day.
The relative uncertainty of the pandemic paradigm persists in the background for all of us in the snowsports ecosystem throughout the planning for this upcoming season. However, ski resorts across North America and the supporting cast of ski shops, hospitality and logistics providers managed to successfully navigate troubled waters to finish with a strong and memorable season last year. We expect this to be even more true this season as borders and travel in general continues to open up and provide more opportunities for people to safely get to the mountains.
Supply chain disruptions have been a constant theme throughout the past year as well. In our interdependent world it seems that no country, industry, or individual business has been insulated from these realities. At DPS Skis and PHANTOM, this has been true for us too, although our USA headquartered factory, world class team, and consistent, intentional focus on shortening our supply chain has helped us weather this storm relatively well so far. There have absolutely been weeks where we are sweating out the arrival of key raw materials or components from some place or another, but the team rallies and our partners scramble with us to keep things moving forward week after week. This has allowed us to get early season shipments out to ski shops in a timely fashion so they can keep their customers prepared and stoked for the season that is...just...about...here...
All this is to say: the DPS + PHANTOM teams are charging hard and excited to hit the skin tracks and lift lines with you in the coming weeks and months. Be sure to visit your local ski shops and share the stoke while supporting their dedicated teams as well. We are working hard everyday to make sure they are well stocked with the newest and best ever DPS Skis, AT bindings, climbing skins and of course, PHANTOM.
We'll see you out there soon...
Alex
A wood planer whines at an increasingly higher pitch, quickly removing the rough skin of a long rectangular piece of paulownia. Timber-scented dust rises from the well-used machine, illuminated by a shaft of evening light shining through a partially opened doorway in the heart of Salt Lake’s industrial cityscape. To an outsider, a cursory examination of the scene might lead one to believe that they’ve happened upon little more than a hasty carpentry job, but upon closer inspection it becomes clear that the machine operator has a careful watch on what soon will become a key part of a highly-engineered ski.
The calculations, measurements, and testing that have led to this initial step in the build process are innumerable. True innovation does not simply come from an idea, a rough sketch on a bar napkin, and a quick pass through a wood mill. It is a focused state of mind that causes very good ideas to perish, while allowing great ideas to flourish. Good is commonplace, great is rare.
To find that atypical, true innovation, one must rely on equally motivated and talented partners, each bringing a unique set of skills to the group. Part dreamers, part scientists (occasionally of the “mad” variety), those who make up the DPS research and development team rarely let more than a day or two pass without tinkering or toying with the status quo. Constantly looking to the future takes a certain mindset, putting aside the day’s responsibilities to make for a better tomorrow – or more accurately, a better year from now. What is brand new for most, becomes old and stale for these inspired individuals who constantly strive to improve upon what many consider “the best ever”.
“The best ever” is a deceptively complicated thought. To a skier, the best day ever often brings ruminations of swirling cold smoke left in the wake of bottomless plunges into the white room as the pull of gravity guides the body down seemingly endless descents. That type of memory can fuel days – even weeks – of hapless travel, struggling to decipher foreign languages and indecipherable signage, all in the hopes of re-creating a memory. But what if it wasn’t a sublime memory that fueled this type of compulsive behavior; what if it was a thought, a hope of making the best even better? This is the mindset of an innovator.
When the best has already been experienced, what is left? Not much. When one is powered by ideas from a time that lays ahead, there is no choice but to chase those notions. When the tools needed to see those concepts come to life are available, they are put to use – tirelessly. This throws a kink in traditional schedules as the numbers on a clock become useless. 9-to-5 or 5-to-9, it doesn’t really matter when days are measured in progress, not hours.
Problem solving skills are kept as sharp as the knives on the shrilling planer, now close to reaching a point of exhaustion after back-to-back shifts. Upon emergence, the perfectly milled paulownia core is cleanly mated with an insert constructed of disparate species of wood. The unlikely, horizontal harmony found between the materials represents a new, completely innovative way to manufacture the core of a ski. It takes twice the effort for the machinery, and many times more the effort for the engineers that calculate the precise ratios needed to achieve the desired, shock-absorbing effect. This type of creation morphs a mission into a vision, a memory into an intention. It embodies the will to innovate.

]]>“Summer is a skier’s season to dream.” Those are the words that gave birth to Dreamtime over a decade ago and they remain true today.
Dreamtime 2021 marks the introduction of our new Pagoda construction, event-exclusive Special Edition Pagoda Tour skis, two limited-run creations from the Powderworks division, two new Koala models, and a new look for our Foundation line. We are also very excited to introduce two DPS | ATK co-branded bindings. The highest caliber of touring bindings with unique DPS design features that perfectly align with our high performance touring vision. Lastly-- in our mission to be and serve the best-of-the best, we are introducing two unique DPS gloves.

Early Riser & Midnight Rider Special Edition Skis
For the first time in DPS’ history our Special Edition offering is built using our best-in-class touring construction, Pagoda Tour. For our product and manufacturing team the Pagoda Tour construction is the result of countless hours of blood, sweat, tears, design iterations, and manufacturing innovation. The DPS Team works well beyond your normal 9-5 work day dedicating themselves to building the world’s most advanced skis. With that kind of work ethic, and a deep passion for skiing, it’s only natural that many DPS employees find themselves heading out for a backcountry tour well before the sun comes up, or after the sun goes down. These special edition skis are a nod to the people here at DPS who keep the dream alive.
Special Edition skis are released once per year exclusively at Dreamtime. They are small-batch, limited edition ‘artwork’ creations made in the Salt Lake City, Utah DPS factory, and are never reproduced again. Prized by those craving something truly rare and exotic, interested skiers are strongly encouraged to contact a DPS ski fitter before Dreamtime commences so that they can act decisively, as SEs commonly sellout. The 2021 Special Edition skis are available in the following Pagoda Tour models:
Special Edition Pagoda Tour 100 RP (Early Riser) - 153cm, 163cm, 171cm, 179cm, 184cm

Limited Powderworks Creations
Powderworks skis represent a space that allows for cutting-edge creativity, progressive shapes, and experimental R+D efforts. Unrestrained by traditional ski construction, these designs are born from a fleeting moment on a memorable chairlift ride—then slowly brought to life in the R+D lab beginning that very evening. A small batch of Powderworks monikered skis are built every year for core members of skiing’s culture, whose lives revolve around their next epic powder turn.
Powderworks RPC 115: 178cm, 186cm, 192cm
Powderworks Tour Lotus 124: 171cm, 178cm, 185cm
NEW Pagoda Construction
Allow your senses to merge with the zenith of carbon fiber ski tuning.
Pagoda is an approach to engineering. It’s the product of over 15 years devoted to tuning carbon skis. As the centerpiece of the DPS ski collection, Pagoda sits comfortably between the Pagoda Piste and Pagoda Tour bookends. Defying classification, this vibrant construction performs extremely well in both resort and backcountry settings. Its unique combination of both vertical and horizontally layered core quiets unpleasant inconsistencies felt in less-than-perfect snow, while allowing the electricity of carbon to elevate the senses during the precious moments of soft snow euphoria. Enjoy the palpable sensations that can only be found when the mind and ski unite: experience Pagoda.
Available in the following models and lengths:
100 RP: 153cm, 163cm, 171cm, 179cm, 184cm, 189cm
106 C2: 155cm, 163cm, 171cm, 179cm, 184cm, 189cm

NEW Koala Models
Koala 118
The newly designed Koala 118 is an entirely fresh shape that places increased emphasis on the freestyle fun factor, while providing plenty of stability and edgehold. Let the whole mountain become your powder playground with its 19m turn radius, deep rocker lines, and a softer, more progressive flex pattern than its predecessor. Enjoy buttering and spinning off your favorite features as you link together as many hits as possible on a pow day.
Available in the following lengths: 176cm, 184cm, 189cm.
Koala 103
Poppy on the lip, stable on the landings, and comfortable on the rails, focus on making the entire mountain your personal park with the Koala 103. With its completely fresh shape and flex pattern, it’s made to spin, butter, ollie, and transform the side hits into your new best friends. Yet it retains DPS’ emphasis on the art of the turn, ensuring enjoyment between freestyle hits.
Available in the following lengths: 168cm, 176cm, 184cm, 189cm.
NEW Foundation Skis
Employing best-in-class components from start-to-finish, weight was not a factor during the design process. Triaxial fiberglass wraps the bamboo and poplar bi-phase wood core, while unidirectional carbon stringers add torsional stiffness and life. The result is an on-snow feel that produces a wonderful blend of power and dampness, and is readily accessible to a wide range of skier profiles. Every model in the Foundation series shares DPS’ C2 and RP chassis shaping that yields design and performance consistency from shape-to-shape and length-to-length.
Available in the following models and lengths:
87 Grom: 148cm, 158cm

]]>Clay had the following to share about applying his ski-touring skillset to venture deeper into the wilderness on multi-day missions:
Starting a ski traverse can feel like pushing a stone uphill...or maybe that’s just the heavy backpack with food, fuel, and winter camping gear.
If you enjoy walking uphill and looking at mountains just as much as you enjoy skiing down them, then you will certainly love the process.
Pack your backpack and take your skis for a walk with friends. Getting to explore new places, spend a night or two out, and share those experiences with others is special. You’re sure to learn something new about the mountains and yourself along the way.
You get to feel, touch, and digest the snow textures on all aspects and elevations. As the snow changes with every passing day, you’re granted a front row seat to watch everything dynamically unfold in front of you.
The sun angle, ambient temperatures, cloud cover, and wind: are all nature’s inputs that change the snow and affect skiing conditions.
You learn about the importance of timing and meeting the mountains on their terms, becoming completely engulfed by your surroundings and – for an extended period of time – escaping the routine and comforts you know all too well at home.
Being out in the mountains for days on end heightens your senses and deepens your appreciation for the liveliness of the peaks that surround you.
Enjoy the opportunity to safely crampon up inexplicably steep, frozen snow under moonlit peaks without worry of snow and rock crashing down on top of you.
Developing a deeper appreciation for the majesty of alpine wilderness areas strengthens the human spirit.
As complicated as it may seem, life becomes exceedingly simple out there. Walk, ski, rest, melt snow for drinking water, eat, sleep, repeat. Life distilled.
Dare to dream bigger this spring and venture a little further. The opportunities are endless, no matter how big or small. Once you get moving there is a vast untracked world waiting for you.

While we look ahead to more prosperous times, the DPS team has recently taken time to reflect on a year of trials with joy and gratitude. The trials were real, downright scary at times. When resort towns in Europe and Japan began shuttering their doors in February 2020 and soon thereafter in North America, none of us knew what to think or expect. The anxieties were very personal, yet shared globally, especially with our friends and partners throughout the ski community; family owned ski shops, suppliers, logistics partners, hospitality businesses of all kinds – our friends and family in health care services.
What was next?
I am proud beyond measure of how our team and our community responded. It was heroic. It was humbling to be a part of. Unified by a commitment to each other and a resolve to do something positive to support the larger effort, the DPS team quickly pivoted to convert our Salt Lake City factory. We leveraged our innovative engineering expertise to spearhead a collaboration of outdoor brands and community partners to build over 80,000 medical face shields for healthcare workers in Utah, and across the country. This effort also allowed us to avoid painful layoffs while inspiring solidarity, resilience, and hope.
We would survive. Further, we discovered new summits that we could reach together, solidifying camaraderie and confidence in a shared future in which we will thrive as a team. To our customers, ski shop partners, suppliers, and many other stakeholders...humbly, THANK YOU.
WWII survivor and ski industry pioneer Klaus Obermeyer recently said at age 101: “We have the choice of perception. We can perceive negatively, things around us, or we can perceive them positively.”
By remaining optimistic and resilient, and working together we persevered. In fact, we were able to grow our team, deepen our partner relationships, increase our product offerings, take key steps toward more environmentally sustainable practices, and take another large step towards achieving our best skis to date. As the pandemic paradigm appears to be improving, we look forward to spending more time in the mountains with all of you. The future is bright for the ski community.
With deep gratitude and hope for a bright future together,
Alex Adema

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – February 23, 2020 – DPS Skis accepted the ElevateHer Challenge to elevate women in business, joining 245 other businesses and organizations who have taken the corporate challenge sponsored by the Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI).
DPS Skis is one of 25 new companies that joined the ElevateHER Challenge in 2020. With the strenuous effects of the global COVID-19 Pandemic, DPS Skis understands the increased importance of helping women – especially women in the outdoor industry – succeed.
“DPS is proud to be a part of the ElevateHER Challenge and make meaningful progress in raising the stature and contribution among the growing number of women on our team,” said Alex Adema, DPS President and CEO. “Pat Jones and the Women’s Leadership Institute has provided meaningful support and has been highly engaged in the early stages of the process. We are excited to see where this leads us.”
The ElevateHER Challenge was started by WLI in 2015 as a way to proactively engage organizations and businesses to focus on one or more of six key areas: women in senior leadership, adding women to boards, retention rates of women, monitoring the gender pay gap, mentorship programs and encouraging women to run for political office.
“The EleveateHER Challenge is ideal because it’s research-based and non-prescriptive,” said Patricia Jones, CEO of the Women’s Leadership Institute. “The Challenge is very adaptable among a variety of company cultures. This lends well to success. We’ve seen how implementing this challenge can attract and retain talent and enhance return on investment. Alex Adema and DPS’ commitment to women's leadership is rare, and sets a great example for other companies in the outdoor industry.”

The Wailer 112 RP (Resort Powder) was new for the 2010/11 season. It received glowing media reviews and blitzed all sales forecasts. For many, it was a transformational ski – simply that good. Meant to be skied all day at the resort, the 112 RP bridged the gap with a shape that combined the loose and early planing feel of a fully rockered ski with aggressive 15m sidecut and slight camber underfoot. It was (and still is) a one-ski quiver for planing untracked snow in the morning, laying trenches down to the lift on the groomed, and slaying crud in the afternoon.
Dimensions: 140/112/127mm
When introduced in 2013/14 the RPC was a special 115mm-waisted riff on the award-winning Wailer 112 RP. Featuring a larger 20m radius, lower tip and tail profile, and enhanced damping, the RPC was built for high speed charging to suit skiers that preferred to ski down the fall line through crud and powder. The shape relinquished some of the 112 RP’s playfulness in exchange for enhanced straight-line hard snow, crud, and powder velocity.
Dimensions: 140/115/125mm
The original, and often imitated, 120mm powder pintail that started it all. If it was pre-2010 and you were looking for a directional charger, there was simply no substitute. The Lotus 120s shaping was optimized for deep snow. A tapered and rockered shovel gave it early planing ability and increased slarve-ability, while the flex pattern and geometry was refined over multiple seasons to provide skiers unrivaled balance and powder performance.
Dimensions: 140/122/126mm
Countless seasons of Alaskan R+D, multiple rocker evolutions, the first rockered ski with sidecut; a freak of nature. The highly rockered and tapered Lotus 138 incorporated minimal sidecut underfoot, which provided just enough edge grip to get through occasional harder snow sections, but didn’t detract from the smooth hydrodynamic properties of the tapered forebody and tail. Unlike conventionally shaped powder skis, the Lotus 138 actually became both more stable and quicker as speed increased. At a time when many companies were just starting to discover and implement rocker and progressive shaping into their lineups, the Lotus 138 had already been through four iterations directly based on seasons of Alaskan powder surfing. The unrivaled concoction hit the bullseye for those who live for the art of riding deep snow.
Dimensions: 143/138/140mm
The Spoon started as a dramatically new concept that required big assumptions. The launch of the iconic Spoon in 2013 ushered in a new paradigm in deep snow skiing. Designed exclusively for the best heli/cat/backcountry days, the Spoon featured a convex 3-D shovel combined with full rocker, and radical edge bevel that produced the ultimate in powder surfing sensation. The Spoon drew upon years of experience gained from refining the Lotus 138 and Lotus 120. Requiring very little up-and-down movement in deep powder, it provided incredibly fast slarving and angulated skiing with powerful reeling vertical sprays.
Dimensions: 158/148/151mm

Ski season is knocking on the door, it's time to forget that lean summer bod and start blasting that booty to get in shape for the best time of year: ski season!
Make sure to inspect your gear. File the rust off last year's skis (that you forgot to put summer storage wax on). Check that your boots are properly adjusted to your bindings and make sure your DIN is set properly. Inspect your poles – baskets and all – for any weaknesses.
Check all your avalanche safety gear to make sure it's working correctly. Don't forget to change the batteries in your beacon, test your airbag backpack, and assemble your probe and shovel. Make sure new equipment is dialed and fits correctly, so your first ski tour isn’t a failure to launch.
And most importantly, prepare mentally. This is often overlooked, but it's an extremely important process for me in order to have a strong and productive ski season.
Physical Preparation
Pre-season training has been a vital practice of mine over the last 14 years of skiing competitively as an alpine racer, and now as a big mountain skier. Extensive hours in the gym during the months of October and November have made my seasons rewarding in many ways. It never has and never will be ‘easy.’ Teddy said it himself: “Nothing worth having comes easy.” There is a lot that goes into having the best season of your life.
Music plays a huge role in my gym workouts. I have a few ‘pump up’ playlists I like to listen to with my Jaybird Vista headphones. This makes working out much easier for me because I am actually having fun and getting energized by each song. (I sometimes do a little dance in place between sets of lifting). I am able to really ‘tune in’ to my body and mind while listening to music, and ‘tune out’ other distractions.
Comfortability is key for me while working out. Whether I am at the gym, at home, or on the trail, Helly Hansen apparel makes it possible for me to perform at my best.
I usually split up my training with a mixture of different exercises and activities including cardio based workouts, strength building workouts, agility, mobility, stability exercises, resting/recovery, and mental training.
Dynamic Warm-up
- 20 mins. cycle/run
- Walk out Planks
- ‘World’s Greatest Stretch’
- Single Leg Glute Bridge [10 each side X 2 rounds]
- Single Leg Squats [8 each side X 2 rounds]
- Core Engaging Exercises
Lifts
Front Squat: [10-15 reps X 4 rounds]
- Deadlifts: [10-15 reps X 4 rounds]
- Single Arm Kettlebell Clean+Press: [10-15 reps X 4 rounds]
Body Weight Exercises
- Box Jumps: [8 jumps X 3 rounds]
- Single Leg Hamstring Curls: [10 reps each leg X 3 rounds]
- Pull Ups/Kips: [10 reps (or as many as you can) X 3 rounds]
- Toes-to-bar/Knees-to-chest: [10 reps X 3 rounds]
- Russian Twists (with weighted medicine ball): [50-60 reps X 3 rounds]
- Calf Raises: [30 each leg X 1 round]
- Wall Sits: [2-4 mins. X 3 rounds]
Equipment Preparation
I start each season by cleaning and tuning my skis. Dirt and rust builds up from lots of days on snow, making time to hand tune the bases and edges using a file guide and diamond stones keeps that from happening. If time or tools are limited, it's amazing how the PHANTOM polishing pad (a low-abrasion scrub pad) can quickly eliminate micro-hairs on the base material. Then, if needed, I will wax and brush my PHANTOM-treated bases (see below for more on this crazy stuff!).
Before the season starts I get my new skis PHANTOMed. This can be done by a certified dealer with a PHANTOM Cure Station, or by ordering your own PHANTOM DIY kit. Last year was my first season using PHANTOM Permanent Waxless Glide. Throughout the winter and spring, I immediately noticed the difference in my ski’s gliding performance. While skiing in all different types of conditions my skis ran really well across all snow temperatures.
The gear I rely on:
- DPS Pagoda Tour 100 RP (for backcountry)
- DPS Alchemist Zelda 106 C2 (for resort)
- Mammut Barryvox Beacon
- Mammut Probe
- Mammut Shovel
- Osprey Soelden Pro 32 Avalanche Airbag Pack
- LEKI Ski Touring Poles (Tour Stick Vario Carbon or Helicon Light) - adjustable and lightweight + Leki Women’s XPlore Mitt
- POC Obex BC Spin Helmet, Orb Clarity Goggles, Sunglasses
- Helly Hansen Odin Collection (W Odin Mountain 3L Shell Jacket, W Odin Mountain 3L Bib Pant, W Odin Lifaloft Down Hybrid Jacket)
- PHANTOM Permanent Waxless Glide
- PHANTOM Polishing Pad
- Skida Headwear
- First Aid Kit
- Tool and Repair Kit (with duct tape and Voile straps)
- Homemade “Mads Muffin” (see below for recipe)
Mental Preparation
These are practices I incorporate into my daily routine. I feel very accomplished if I can do all of these things in one day, especially during long, busy days.
- Wim Hof breathing exercises
- Meditation
- Recovery/Stretch/Sleep
- Ice baths and cold showers
Simply adding a couple of these practices into my day improves my mental wellbeing and sanity.
Muffin Preparation (that's pretty much all I eat)
Most people who know me agree that I am a muffin making machine. I just really love muffins. They’re the perfect fuel for me whether I’m snacking on one while cruising up the skin track, pulling one out of my pocket on the chair lift, or sharing them with friends on an early morning hike. As an athlete, nutrition is very important to me, as I want to fuel my body with good ingredients that are healthful, tasty, and not full of processed sugar or chemicals you can barely pronounce on the wrapper. I like to food-prep a few batches of muffins at the beginning of the week so I can easily grab one on the fly and never worry about leaving the house without some sort of sustenance. Efficiency baby!
I make them all from scratch and very rarely follow a recipe or measure ingredients – probably because I have made thousands of muffins at this point in my life and now know by pure feeling what's going to work. BUT, I did create a recipe that is pretty simple, and it can be used as an outline/foundation that can be customized by simply adding or substituting ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 2 mashed bananas
- 2 eggs
- 1 C almond/oat milk
- ¼ C coconut oil
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- ¼ C honey/maple syrup
- 2 C Kodiak Cakes mix
- 1 scoop protein powder of choice
- ½ C flax meal
- ½ C almond flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- Lil’ bitta salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, whatever spices tickle your fancy
- Toppings: walnuts, pecans, dried cranberries, fresh blueberries, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, chia seeds
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and fill a non-stick muffin baking tin ¾ full and bake at 350º for about 15 mins., or until they are done.
Preparation Complete

When did you start directing and filmmaking?
I started filmmaking in early 2000. At the time we were doing a lot of adventure, short branded documentaries, and event coverage filming.
Have you always been interested in directing and filmmaking? How did it all start?
I've always been interested in cameras and imagery, but I wasn't immediately captivated by filmmaking. In a way, filmmaking found me. It all started in the early 2000s when I was part of a startup company that was trying to make content for the internet. This was back in the days of dial up connections, so figuring out how to do video online was all very new. We were all young and absurdly naive. Since I had an interest in cameras, I became the video guy almost by default. One of our early clients was Marmot. The following year they had an expedition going to attempt a ski descent on a remote unclimbed peak in Eastern Tibet. Since I had a background in skiing and cameras, I got the opportunity to go on that trip. It was a pivotal experience and launched me into filmmaking.
What were some highlights (or interesting misadventures) when filming ‘The Lonely Star’?
Filming ‘The Lonely Star’ was one of the trickier Cinematic shoots for me. We based out of Revelstoke, but unfortunately central British Columbia was having one of the driest mid-winter stretches on record. Everyday we would drive an hour up Rogers Pass and tour for 4-5 hours trying to find zones with meager amounts of fresh snow. It was an immense amount of physical output with very low return. Many days we would come back with one or even zero shots in the can. It was brutal. Fortunately, Zack Giffin – one of the Koala team skiers on the shoot – was keeping an eye on the weather at Mt. Baker. We eventually decided to pull out of Revelstoke at the last minute and chase a storm down to Baker. The Baker footage really saved us.
What are some challenges you face as a director and filmmaker? How do you deal with those challenges?
As a director, there are so many challenges you have to deal with on any given shoot. Shooting ski films has a unique set of challenges unto itself. It's a constant battle keeping cameras dry, lenses clean, batteries charged, moving fast, communicating with athletes, dealing with weather, and hunting and standing around waiting for good light. Some days everything lines up and it's truly magical – like, "I can't believe I get to call this work" type of magical. And other days, it's completely brutal. Days like that, a construction job breaking bricks in the road starts to look pretty appealing. The emotional pendulum swings far and wide.
What piece of advice would you give your younger self for working in this industry?
I would say that there is no right way to make a film. Certainly, there is a threshold of technical understanding required, but beyond that, don't get hung up on wondering if it's the right way or not. Just continue experimenting.
Besides directing and working on films, what are your favorite hobbies and passions?
Skiing has always been a passion for me. These days I really enjoy a backcountry tour with friends. There's something magical about being in the mountains with a small group of people, relying on each other and working towards the same goal. I also really enjoy taking my 9 year old son to the resort. Seeing skiing through his eyes is a fun way to be reminded of the simple joys in all aspects of the sport.
What are you looking forward to in the coming years?
Well...I hope this quarantine/distancing thing fades away soon.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – September 29, 2020 – DPS, makers of PHANTOM Permanent Waxless Glide, recently added ski industry stalwart Shaun Spacht to its team. Spacht, who will take on the newly created position of PHANTOM Sales and Technical Representative, will bolster programs for the award-winning permanent base glide treatment that forever eliminates the need for waxing skis and snowboards.
“Shaun brings excellent industry experience and valued relationships to our team as PHANTOM’s rate of adoption continues to grow,” said Steve Kropf, VP of sales for DPS and PHANTOM. “As we head into the 2020/21 winter season, he will play a critical role in connecting with current retail partners, as well as creating new relationships with shops throughout North America.”
Having held a number of roles for a variety of highly-regarded snowsports companies over the last 20-plus years, Spacht’s vast experience includes time with Atomic, Christy Sports and Surefoot. From working in the back shop as a ski and snowboard technician, to specialty retail sales, to dealer service as a vendor sales and tech rep, his deep breadth of knowledge around the ski and snowboard industry will help drive new service and revenue opportunities for specialty dealers.
“I’m excited to meet with familiar accounts as well as new retailers to help them join the next chapter of glide performance," said Spacht. “With over two decades of experience in multiple phases of the industry, I've gained a deep understanding of all sides of the conversation and look forward to addressing the unique challenges each dealer faces as we work together to accomplish our goals.”
Developed by a team of expert chemists and material science engineers, PHANTOM’s patent-pending formula creates a hydrophobic environment that offers three undeniable benefits. First, unlike topical wax, PHANTOM is only applied once and permanently alters the chemistry of ski and board bases to make them both faster and harder for the life of the product. Second, PHANTOM offers consistently fast on-snow gliding performance across a broad range of conditions and temperatures. Third, the glide-friendly fluorocarbon functional groups are delivered in a superior method that renders them inert and harmless to humans, plants and animals, once cured into a ski or snowboard base. Cured PHANTOM doesn’t cause biological damage and doesn’t present any long-term environmental risks.
Since introduction nearly three years ago, PHANTOM has received critical acclaim from a number of publications and organizations, including: ISPO, Outdoor Retailer, Wired, Outside magazine, Powder, Freeskier, SKI, Backcountry magazine, Wild Snow, Gear Institute, Gear Junkie, Gear Patrol and Pug Ski.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – September 15, 2020 – At the recent Utah Outdoor Recreation Summit held by the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation, DPS Skis, Goal Zero, Petzl and Eastman Machine Company were presented the Social Investment Award for the creation of medical face shields for frontline workers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic this past spring. The award is presented annually to businesses or other organizations focused on giving back to people, humanitarian efforts and doing good in their communities.
"With the COVID-19 pandemic, many companies had to switch gears to help those in need," said Pitt Grewe, director of the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation. "These companies demonstrated what the outdoor community is all about by stepping up in a moment of crisis to contribute to the greater good. We're proud of all the hard work they've done and all they're doing to help respond to the pandemic."
This award recognizes the impact these organizations have on their local community, economy, environment and their employees. With the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak – and with the collaborative support of three other brand partners, including Utah-based Petzl America and Goal Zero – DPS was able to rapidly pivot production to create protective face shields for the medical community to fulfill orders in partnership with the Utah Department of Health. In total, over 80,000 shields have been built to support medical efforts on the Navajo Nation in Southern Utah, at the Salt Lake City Rescue Mission, the Utah Naval Reserve and numerous regional hospitals in need of PPE.
“On behalf of our partners, we are proud to accept this award, and more importantly contribute to the nationwide effort of PPE production. This would not have been possible without the enthusiastic support of our key partners Goal Zero, Petzl and Eastman Machine Company,” said Alex Adema, DPS President and CEO. “We are inspired by the healthcare workers who dedicate their lives to helping others. Their selfless sacrifices deserve recognition as they continue to mitigate the risk of COVID-19’s spread. We are humbled to have found ourselves in a position to mobilize this project with the passionate, soulful team at DPS and our amazing partners.”
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is necessary in keeping medical workers protected as they test and treat those affected by the virus. For more information, please visit the respective brand websites below.

A hard left is made into the relative safety of the stand of trees seen from above and the skis’ top sheets are revealed, triggering the skier’s imagination. Looking down, an examination of the process it took for that exact pair of skis to arrive in the mountains that snowy morning is quickly underway. What started as an idea and a set of schematics quickly evolved into three-dimensional pieces of wood, thin strands of steel, intricately woven layers of carbon, specifically engineered foam composite, and sheets of hard plastic. Those elements, when sitting alone, don’t add much value to a person’s life, but in the hands of a true craftsman they are united in a way that brings the ultimate joy to certain individuals; to skiers.
The craftsman who has the ability to transform a collection of seemingly unrelated parts into a technologically supreme tool is an unsung hero, a savant of sorts. The type of person who quietly spends the majority of their waking hours meticulously toiling away to create a dynamic piece of engineered art to be enjoyed by the mind and soul. These individuals each have their own story, they come from different backgrounds and their life experiences run the full gamut, but they all have something in common: they made a conscious decision to join the ranks of the humble crew at the DPS factory in downtown Salt Lake City.
Not long ago this crew of thankless saints was set into a tailspin as they were told their workplace was going to relocate. Imagine, hundreds of thousands of pounds of intricate machinery, carefully organized storage racks, personal effects, and memories would need to be moved. The task was a daunting one. Lists were made, operational manuals consulted, and questions were asked – many of which went unanswered.
Although the new factory was just four miles away, it felt as if it could have been on the other side of the continent. Once moved, the machines were reassembled, and with insight only a skilled operator could provide, a new, more efficient workflow was established. The build sequence was re-evaluated, problems were solved and progress was made.
The hard work of the DPS factory crew oftentimes goes unrecognized. It’s easy to buy a new pair of skis and take them out on a powder day, have one helluva good time and then casually throw them in the back of a truck until the next snowfall. Without the quiet luminaries hard-at-work just half an hour down valley, the skier – tucked neatly into the stand of pines excitedly awaiting a second pitch of perfect powder – wouldn't have the thirst for life in the whiteroom that fuels dreams. A large thank you goes out to the craftsmen that fulfill our unspoken desires. Your hard work is more appreciated than you could imagine.

Utah Outdoor Community creates face shields for healthcare workers from Underbelly Creative on Vimeo.
SALT LAKE CITY – April 8, 2020 – DPS Skis, Goal Zero, Petzl and Eastman Machine Company have joined forces to manufacture medical-grade reusable polyethylene face shields for the Utah Department of Health. The combined efforts and resources of the four highly-respected brands has resulted in the expeditious manufacturing of key Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the medical community in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
“Our entire team is proud to be contributing to the nationwide effort of PPE production and are humbled by the enthusiastic support of key partners – Goal Zero, Petzl, and Eastman Machine Company – that are helping make this possible. With a 15 year history of rapid prototype-to-production manufacturing, we are in a unique situation to convert a major portion of our operations to produce protective medical face shields,” said Alex Adema, DPS President and CEO.
Production of the face shields has commenced at DPS Skis’ Salt Lake City factory, with the first shipment of shields expected to be delivered in the coming weeks to Utah’s medical community. The four brands have come together in a unique way to make this possible, with tooling donated by Eastman, raw materials purchased by Goal Zero and by utilizing retrofitted Petzl headlamp headbands.
“Giving back in an impactful way is in Goal Zero’s DNA,” said Goal Zero’s General Manager, Bill Harmon. “We’re honored to support the efforts being made by our friends in the outdoor industry who share the same concerns as we do in helping to safeguard frontline medical professionals as they serve the community.”
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is in short supply and necessary in keeping medical workers protected as they test and treat those affected by the virus.
