From our friends at NOAA in sunny south Boulder, Colorado the barometric prophets are predicting that 2009-2010 will bring the El Nino phenomenon to us in the Northern Hempishere, and La Nina to those seeing the southern stars (lo siento, Claudio). While calls for El Nino's strength appear to be moderate, it's worth noting from NOAA, "THE IMPACT OF EL NINO ON THE CLIMATE OVER NORTH AMERICA IS EXPECTED TO BE GREATEST DURING THE WINTER SEASONS." With reports of friends already riding powder in places like Colorado, it's now ski season.
So, gather ye boards, say your prayers, give your boyfriend or girlfriend daily flowers and kisses in the Fall, do your queer snow dance rituals, and embrace what is to come. As the timeless Warren Miller has said time and time again, 'next season you'll be one year older' (i.e. carpe diem, get after it while you can).
