DPS Lotus 120 Spoon wins Best in Test

We’re proud to announce that the Lotus 120 Spoon won ‘Best in Test’ in Backcountry Magazine’s 2013 Buyer’s Guide, the top ski selected out of 400 models entered from ski manufacturer’s worldwide. Backcountry Magazine’s test was held at Utah’s Powder Mountain in March 2013, hosting a crew of ripping men and women skiers for three days of all-mountain riding on 2013-14 skis from the world’s leading brands. Last year, the Wailer 99, Nina, and Yvette 112RP were awarded Backcountry Magazine’s Editor’s Choice—with the Wailer 99 featured on the magazine’s cover with Dos Equis ‘Most Interesting Man in the World.’ This year, the Lotus 120 Spoon won Backcountry’s most coveted award— ‘Best in Test’, a definitive nod to the Lotus 120 Spoon’s prowess. Backcountry says, "The Spoon-ified tip feels like nothing else in Powder." Also entering the winner’s circle this year was DPS’ all-mountain stalwarts, the Wailer 99 and Wailer 112RP, which each nabbed Gear Guide Select honors, respectively. Backcountry calls DPS’ pioneering and introduction of Spoon Technology to the ski industry,
“The biggest innovation in powder skiing since rocker…”
For 2013-14, we’ve infused Spoon Technology in the entire DPS Lotus family line; Lotus 120 Spoon, Lotus 138 Spoon, and Spoon ski. Read up on Spoon Technology and Spooning here. “When we developed the Spoon, we learned that the technology worked so well that we decided to apply it to the Lotus line,” explained DPS founder Stephan Drake. “We’ve transferred R+D from the Spoon and infused Spoon Technology into the Lotus 120 and 138, albeit with less convexity than the Spoon.” Spoon Technology is now mated with Pure3 construction which was unveiled in summer 2013 as a ground-up redesign of our award-winning Pure construction achieving breakthroughs previously thought impossible, delivering an even damper and smoother ride to the world’s only prepreg carbon sandwich ski construction. It is the next big leap in carbon construction. With the launch of Pure3 Construction and Spoon Technology—including a variety of new ski models, and the birth of DPS’ Utah factory, 2013-14 is poised to be a banner year for DPS. Skis can be found at the worlds best dealers and on dpsskis.com.
