Reviews

The reviews are in. Do the research and check out what dedicated, core skiers from around the world are saying on forums like TGR and telemarktips, freeride.se- you will find DPS skis to be consistently rated as amongst the highest performing, if not highest performing thoroughbreds ever made. The world's most dedicated skiers have been riding DPS skis for years now, and the stoke continues. Here is a sampling of reviews from core skiers on online forums, magazines, and independent testers:

"DPS is a small crew of dedicated riders who are bent on utilizing the latest in carbon fiber technology combined with the best in ski designs to produce the best skis on the market, period... word on the street is that DPS skis are the best skis you will ever turn." Backcountry.com

"It’s playful and won’t lock you into do-or-die arcs. “Race-type grip with park-type flex,” said one tester. Its easy, non-hooky initiation is perfect for the well-rounded skier who cruises, bumps, and dabbles in the park. PLUS: Not too stiff, not too soft, and not demanding in the least," SKiing Magazine on the Cassiar 80, August 2009. "Owning a pair of skis from DPS is like going to a premier nightclub: There's a hefty cover charge and a long line to get in, but the wait is worth it." Outside Magazine

"Some of the most beautiful boards I've ever seen."

"BOTTOM LINE: These are the sickest skis I have ever been on in soft snow. If you stay away from groomers, you'd have to be some type of weeblo not to have fun on these skis. Absolute grade A work, DPS."

My last word on the 120s If you ski alot in the backcountry and want a big ski that handles well at speed and can arc in all kinds of soft snow & crust, the 120 comes HIGHLY recommended. I really feel like they are THE main option in this category." Overall, these skis are everything I hoped. I think Marshal hit the nail on the head in another thread "possibly the sickest ski ever". They are just plain Nasty and also super sexy."

"These things kill, so much power, so light and so effortless. They're at least 80% better than the 05 vintage 190s I used last year (a ski that I LOVE). Load the tips at all and you can just rail hard powerful turns, lighten the tips and they're super compliant skidders. Pretty great IMO, I was taking the aggressive line and attacking gaps in trees with a ton of control. Once at speed I never touched down on the firm layer. The whole rig is more than two pounds lighter than my BD rig and much nicer for skinning and much less tiring to ski. "So it's been a few months of use and a few places. Alpental, Crustal, Silverton, Telluride and Kendall Mountain Recreation Center. And a palette of snow conditions: corn, dust on crust, PNW spackling compound, San Juan silverlight pow. Big open bowls well above treeline, weedy wickets, bowls, spines, and corned beginner groomers. I'm still sold on these skis as possibly the best ski I've ever owned."

"This is a RR big gun. If youre headed for AK i highly suggest picking these up, they are so choice."

"Overall, the best do-it-all ski I have ever tried."

"Overall: Like the Lotuses, I'm extremely happy with this purchase. The shape is fantastic; they're incredibly versatile, nimble, and pretty much ski themselves. Now that I have a few days on them I have a hard time imagining going back."

"In spite of all the lavish praise above, i'd say my most impressive experience on these came last weekend on a tracked out chunky Vail back bowl. These skis slice through crud and chop like a hot knife through butter. They just sit on top of everything and beg to go faster. I actually enjoy skiing them more in these conditions, as you can go faster in crud/chop than blower pow. It's the equivalent of railing a race ski on a perfectly groomed run, they just want to be let loose. As you can probably tell i'm fairly taken by these sticks, am actually suffering from a bout of severe post purchase satisfaction."

"These things kill, so much power, so light and so effortless... I skied em and the words you've come to expect from me are gonna come back:

KILL DESTROY DOMINATE goddamn, do I love these skis.
Surfing 1" of windpack on the spine? check.
banging out tiny, tiny turns through the rocks at the top of rock garden? check.
moguls down the 4th alley? Check.
slashing surf turns through the waterfall? Check.
Hop turns and sideslips into the finger? Check.
Edgehold in the finger? Check.
Rallying turns on the groomie? Check.
Destroying frozen chickenheads? Not so much.

Hell, I even made some telemark turns and they do that too.

I feel sorry for the big daddies cause I don't see them getting much use.

KILL DESTROY DOMINATE so light, so powerful, so much fun."

"These skis are all about bigger better faster, and will have you thinking about maybe geting a helmet! Excellent skiing experience, cant stop thinking about it, ...amazing ski." "First off--HOLY SHIT! That was about all I could say during my first 3 runs on these skis. I felt like Superman. These skis wanted to make any shape, or form, of turn that i felt like and at any speed. They are like Ferrari's. I had to readjust my thinking as I was blazing down to runs in deep snow as easily and as fast as if I were skiing a steep cordoroy groomer....I kept thinking to myself, "I shouldn't be skiing this fast here. This is nuts. I shouldn't be skiing this deep snow, this fast, and with this much control". But there i was....maching. And while maching at lunatic speeds, you can bust out any turn you wanted..

First day out on the new rocker 3 lotus was 30 inches of new snow. I feel like my entire paradigm of what is possible on skis has changed. These are without a doubt the finest skis I have ever owned. I look forward to exploring a new world of possibilities with these beneath my feat."

"I have nothing but positive feedback for your company and skis. The lotus 120s are the best skis I’ve ever ridden on."

"Hello and happy New Year, thank you for your mails, I buy this summer wailer 95 and cassiar 80, I am really satisfied. A small moment to adapt it’s dynamic and after it’s pleasure. I use them in telemark there are really answers has my waits(expectations). There are beautiful and effective. thanks and long life to the dps ski. I ski in the French Alps and nobody know skis dps. I communicate on your Internet site with pleasure. Sorry for my bad English, I’m best for ride with my dps skis."

"I received my pair of Wailer 105's the past week, put a pair of Diamir on then and went skiing. after a couple of days of use, all I can tell is: WOW! as you said the rail on the groomers and the float like a dream (well, it was kinda crusty and took some tumbles but whatever). they are amazingly light and LOOK PLAIN AWESOME. I was all the rage on the aerial tram..they just look dope, stylish stylish stylish. beautiful indeed."

"I just got the 192 Flex 2 138s for this season. I took them out for all this snow we’ve been getting in CO and these are hands down the best skis I’ve ever ridden. In the pow they are a dream, they’ll make any turn and cannot be sunk. I feel that chewed up crud is where they really shine, they truck over everything in my path and are so confidence inspiring."

"They were unlike anything I’ve skiied before. I saw about 50” of snow come down in Alta/Snowbird over ten days and another 12” or so over three days at Mt. Bachelor. I ripped open faces in fresh powder and day-old and two-day old leftovers at speeds that I’ve never hit before and skied glades with more confidence than ever before."

"I've got two days on the Cassiar now; and I think I can confidently say you have a winner here. Edge hold is superb; turning radius is right on for me; a bit longer it feels ;than the rossi race stock slalom I was on. I like to go a little faster than that sidecut allows. Not so twitchy at speed either; wants to turn but much more user friendly too.

I purposefully loaded the shit out of the tail several times and was only able to wash it out once; it has plenty of power but wont spit you out unless you are way back. Huge sweet spot; super easy to turn; even medium radius GS; feathered turns are possible without excess grabbing.

Bottom line is that this ski is super fun; edge transitions are a blur when releasing a loaded ski. The lighter weight made the trip across the fall line under your feet almost instant."

DPS is rooted in design and engineering. We are after the perfect ski. That single-minded goal has meant a history rooted in revolutionary carbon constructions and shapes.
We currently build the entire quiver of skis in 2 different constructions:

Go to Hybrid: Fiberglass + Carbon + Bamboo

+ Pure Prepreg Carbon Laminates and Nanotech Resins
+ A specially designed poplar/x-wood core that mates with the carbon build
+ The fastest and hardest Austrian World Cup race bases
+ 2.1mm edges
+ the finest ISO Polyamide tops and burly UHMW sidewalls.

Combining space age prepreg carbon fiber laminates with the durability of a burly sidewall build, it’s the only pure carbon sandwich ski in existence.

DPS Pure skis are the product of four years of intense development and engineering. It’s a ski that is truly unique and that feels unlike anything else made; a ski that actually makes you rip harder because it produces more power, is more reactive, and weighs less than traditional skis. Pure skis also have a practically infinite flex life, and don't break down like normal glass skis- endowing them with immense value.

While 99.9% of the skis available on the market are built using fiberglass and/or metal (aluminum). The prepreg carbon and nano resins used in all DPS skis have twice the strength of fiberglass (3 times the strength of aluminum) while weighing half as much.

Carbon skis are the future. Once most people experience the power of a carbon ride, few go back to conventional builds.

power & ride

Carbon has 20% more torsional stiffness than a wood/fiberglass construction. That means power, stability, and amazing edge grip.

durability

All DPS boards are using a sandwich construction with ultra-strong UHMW sidewalls, a poplar/x-wood core, wide 2.1mm edges, and a thickened base profile that turns the inevitability of rock hits into less base welds.

Carbon is precisely flexed, doesn’t warp, and retains nearly 100% of its flex for the life of the ski.

Seasons down the road, your skis will retain the same snap as your first day on them. A DPS ski becomes a great value and investment; they won’t start dying after a month like a fiberglass/wood blend. You no longer have to buy a new pair every year just to revive that sweet first-day pop. Instead, you can focus on building your quiver.

weight

Traditionally, light skis are under performers because ski builders remove the materials that endow the ski with its performance characteristics in order to shed weight. It’s always been a compromise. With a carbon ski, you don’t give up anything. The materials let the ski outperform even the burliest metal constructions, while weighing on average 30% less.

1. Turn initiation is instantaneous and transitions are super fast.
2. In powder, you float better and go faster while expending less energy.
3. Skinning is easier and more fun.
4. When jumping, you spin with skis that are not ounces, but pounds lighter.

Go to Pure: Carbon + Nano

+ Wetlayup Triax Glass with 30mm center Uni carbon stringer on both top and bottom laminates
+ Bamboo Core
+ The fastest and hardest Austrian World Cup race bases
+ 2.1mm edges
+ ABS top with burly UHMW sidewalls.

We realized that the time was ripe to launch a Hybrid construction line that would incorporate DPS'sshaping heritage, carbon roots, and flex design with a more standard construction. We couldn't just build a standard fiberglass ski though. We have upped the ante by taking taking the industry standard fiberglass construction and adding two beefy carbon stringers, boosted the core with bamboo, added urethane dampening, and maintained the fastest, hardest graphite bases made.

Last season we mated the Hybrid construction with Lotus 120's, Lotus 138's, and Wailer 105's. We have refined the flex patterns and the Hybrid line is ready to roll with a time tested, bomber construction and immaculate finishing. They are designed to exceed the highest performance offerings from other brands, while still accessible at great prices that allow you to build out your quiver. The Hybrid: Fiberglass+Carbon+Bamboo line is the ultimate value construction with thoroughbred roots.

buying a DPS Ski...

DPS started selling skis direct to core customers in 2005. We have developed a great system for fitting customers via the ski finder system, and offering extra confidence in buying by adding a factory direct demo program. Choose the ski you want, or talk to our reps to get fitted for the perfect ski. It’s easy and it works- there’s nothing like receiving that long brown box from the delivery driver with fresh carbon skis in it.

DPS will also be adding highend select dealers in 2009 as a great option to purchase skis. Buying from a dealer gives you the option to see the skis in person, flex them, demo them, and get them serviced directly.

not sure what ski you need?

Picking a ski can be tough. Don't worry. We have been custom fitting skis over the internet for four years now. It's a process that works, and existing customers are stoked on it. Fill out a ski finder form and you will be put in touch with a rep who shreds, knows skis inside and out, and has built their life around high performance skiing.
