The Lotus 138 started out in a flurry of emails. At that point, Pete and I hadn’t actually met in person. Everything was theoretical, but there was an instant energy and shared passion for powder ski design. We started disecting the merits of camber, sidecut, tip/tail shapes, and flex patterns. There were a lot of possibilities to explore. Months later, the debate picked-up again in Pete’s garage in Eden, Utah. Spatulas, Tablas, and Axioms took their place under the microscope, and the new Lotus started to take shape. We wanted something that would plane high in the pack with zero tip sink even in continental snow. It had to pop up on a plane quickly and have the stability to give the rider a solid platform to work the ski pricisely from the ball and middle part of the foot. The debates were many: What is too much underfoot? What would a touch of traditional sidecut do to a reverse sidecut design? How much rocker and radius should be incorporated into the tip and tail design? The initial sketches took shape. Pete started to work his magic on the computer, and a few weeks later, the baby was in the craddle.” -SD

tip: 600mm tail

tail: 500mm tail

sidecut: The Lotus 138 features minimal traditional sidecut in the middle body and reverse sidecut in tip and tail

flex pattern: The Lotus 138 has its own unique flex pattern. The profile was engineered for more floatation and lift, straightline stability, and less wheelie factor when landing airs.
